Circular Subsurface Systems Laboratory
Welcome to Dr. Kyung Jae Lee’s Research Group
. We are multidisciplinary research group in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Houston. We develop science and engineering solutions that enable circular energy and resource systems in the subsurface. Our research integrates multiscale modeling, experimental validation, and artificial intelligence to transform waste streams such as produced water and carbon dioxide into sustainable energy and resources. Applications include characterization and extraction of critical minerals, nuclear waste disposal, and CO2 utilization. CSSL addresses key challenges at the intersection of energy transition, subsurface storage, and resource recovery.
